Liverpool have been crowned Premier League champions after a resounding 5-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

Under the guidance of new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool needed just a point to secure the title and match Manchester United’s record of 20 English league crowns. They went one better, with goals from Luis Díaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, and an own goal from Destiny Udogie sealing a dominant win in front of a jubilant home crowd.

“This is the most beautiful club in the world. We deserve this,” captain Virgil van Dijk told Sky Sports after lifting the trophy. “We are going to enjoy the next couple of weeks and take it all in. I was desperate to win it for the fans and for ourselves.”

Mohamed Salah added to the historic occasion by scoring his 185th Premier League goal, making him the league’s all-time top-scoring foreign player.

Following Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace earlier in the week, Liverpool’s lead became unassailable with four games to spare. Slot’s team currently hold a 15-point advantage at the summit and have tasted defeat only twice in 34 matches—an extraordinary record in the Dutchman’s first season at the helm.

Slot’s appointment last summer was initially met with curiosity and high expectations, tasked with the daunting job of succeeding Jürgen Klopp after nearly a decade of transformational leadership. However, Slot has not only maintained Liverpool’s competitive spirit but has also injected his own dynamic, high-energy style into the team. Known for his tactical intelligence and attention to detail, Slot quickly won over the players and supporters, blending Klopp’s intensity with a more possession-oriented approach that has made Liverpool a force across all competitions this season.

After the final whistle, Slot paid a moving tribute to Klopp, leading the Anfield crowd in singing his predecessor’s name—a mirror of the moment Klopp once honored him when he departed Feyenoord.

“It was clear we couldn’t lose this game,” Slot told Sky Sports. “Everyone on the bus said there’s no way we’re losing today. They always find a way to win. I’m incredibly proud—not just of the players but of the entire team behind the scenes. The sporting directors, my staff—everyone deserves a massive round of applause.”

Slot also emphasized the significance of the achievement: “Let’s not focus on it being only the second title in 35 years—this is the second in five years. This club is back where it belongs.”

The title win under Slot is even more remarkable considering the context: in 2020, Liverpool’s last Premier League triumph came under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrated in isolation as Manchester City lost to Chelsea. This time, Liverpool were able to claim the title emphatically on the pitch, surrounded by their fans at Anfield.

Slot’s immediate success has cemented his reputation as one of Europe’s brightest managerial talents—and suggests that a new and exciting era is just beginning for Liverpool.
