Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz in a deal that would set a new British transfer record at £116 million, according to multiple reputable sources in England.
Paul Joyce of The Times reports that the deal includes an initial fee of £100 million, with potential add-ons raising the total to £116 million. The Athletic adds that the 22-year-old German international is expected to sign a five-year contract at Anfield.
Wirtz will become Liverpool’s second signing of the summer, following the arrival of his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong earlier in the window. The attacking midfielder is set to undergo a medical shortly.
Wirtz has been one of the standout performers in the Bundesliga over the past two seasons and played a central role in Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten 2023/24 title-winning campaign under former manager Xabi Alonso. He leaves the German champions having contributed 57 goals and 65 assists in all competitions and was named Bundesliga Player of the Season for his efforts.
With Liverpool not participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Wirtz could make his debut in the Community Shield clash against Crystal Palace.
