Prosecutors dropped felony charges against US rapper Lil Durk, who was linked to a 2019 shooting case in Georgia, due to a lack of evidence.

Durk turned himself in to police in May 2019 in connection with a non-fatal shooting at Atlanta’s The Varsity restaurant.

This came after police responded to a 911 call on February 5, that year, and discovered a man with a gunshot wound. According to witnesses, the injured man was involved in an argument with an unknown black male prior to the shooting. The man was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery. He was eventually saved.

The rapper was initially charged with a slew of felonies, including aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who recently filed paperwork with the court declining to pursue the case against Durk due to “prosecutorial discretion,” declined to elaborate further.

Willis stated that while there was probable cause to arrest Durk at first, she decided not to pursue the case after a thorough review of the facts.

Manny Arora, Durk’s attorney, told TMZ that Willis simply didn’t have enough evidence to prove her case against the rapper.

Insisting that Durk did not commit a crime that day despite his presence at the scene, Arora added that it was a “shame” that it took 3 years to finally drop the charges, but he was not surprised because prosecutors often drag out cases to save face.
