Kevin De Bruyne has officially signed with Napoli as a free agent following his departure from Manchester City, Serie A champions Napoli confirmed on Thursday.
Club president and film producer Aurelio De Laurentiis shared the news on social media, posting a photo of himself shaking hands with the Belgian midfielder, accompanied by the caption: “Welcome Kevin!”
De Bruyne is believed to have signed a two-year contract with an option for a third season. At Napoli, he will reunite with Belgium international teammate Romelu Lukaku and link up with former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
The 33-year-old ends a glittering 10-year stint at Manchester City, where he was instrumental in the club’s dominance under Pep Guardiola. During his time in England, De Bruyne won six Premier League titles and was a key figure in City’s 2023 UEFA Champions League triumph.
However, his final seasons in Manchester were hampered by recurring injuries, including two serious hamstring issues that sidelined him for long stretches.
With De Bruyne’s arrival, Napoli have secured one of Europe’s most experienced and creative midfielders as they prepare to defend their Serie A title and compete in the expanded Champions League next season.
Antonio Conte’s side clinched the Scudetto on the final day of the season, edging out Inter Milan in a dramatic finish. Unlike their rivals, Napoli benefited from a lighter schedule, having not competed in European football during the campaign.
Now, with Champions League fixtures returning to their calendar, Napoli are strengthening their squad to meet the increased demands—starting with a marquee signing in Kevin De Bruyne.
