Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has dismissed as “false and baseless” allegations of financial misconduct leveled by a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi. The allegations include claims that N2 billion from local government funds was diverted and that former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso receives illicit payments from the state treasury.

Speaking on Sunday evening at the Coronation Hall of the Government House, where he addressed 484 elected ward councillors, Governor Yusuf said his administration is committed to transparency and accountability.

“We are content with what God has given us in this government. No thief can thrive among us,” he said.

Describing the accusations as an attempt to tarnish the image of his political mentor, Senator Kwankwaso, Governor Yusuf praised the former governor’s public service record. “Our government is clean from top to bottom. Every kobo has been used judiciously for development,” he added.

The governor expressed surprise at Bichi’s comments, noting that the former SSG was previously entrusted with a key role in the administration.

“I heard he claimed that we’ve stolen 10 times more than the previous government under Ganduje. Is that a rational statement?” Yusuf questioned.

He also denied claims that Senator Kwankwaso receives N2 billion monthly from the state government, calling it a “malicious fabrication.”

“Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is not a thief. He has served this country with distinction—as a governor, minister, senator, and presidential candidate. The people of Kano are proud of him,” the governor said.

Governor Yusuf further questioned Bichi’s motives and credibility, warning that such allegations were divisive and unbecoming of someone from Kano.

“If you say the governor was begging you, I ask: are you his father, or did you appoint him? The office you held had nothing to do with the budget. No rational person would act this way,” he said.

The governor urged the public to disregard the allegations, reaffirming his administration’s focus on good governance and respect for leadership.
