Johnny Depp has filed an appeal against a judgment that awarded his ex-wife, Amber Heard, $2 million during the trial in which he also won.
In their court ruling, the jury stated that Amber defamed Johnny and was ordered to pay him $10.35 million. They also found Amber to be defamed and awarded her $2 million.
Johnny claimed in legal documents filed before the Virginia Court of Appeals that the jury wrongly ruled in Amber’s favor when it said one of his lawyers, Adam Waldman, defamed Amber by telling a media outlet she lied while describing a blowout fight that ended their marriage.
Waldman, his lawyer, had said;
“So Amber and her friends spilled a little wine and roughed the place up, got their stories straight under the direction of a lawyer and publicist, and then placed a second call to 911.”
Johnny insisted that his lawyer, not him, should be held accountable for his statement. He also claimed Amber’s team failed to prove that Waldman’s comments were made with malice, which is required to win a defamation claim.
Johnny is asking the court to overturn the jury’s decision on that single count.
