Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo has expressed his delight at returning to the Super Eagles setup.
The former Rangers star last featured for Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final against Côte d’Ivoire in February. Now, he has been recalled by head coach Eric Chelle for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Speaking to Oganla Media in Kigali, Aribo shared his excitement about reuniting with the national team.
“It’s a really good feeling. I’m happy to be back, happy to be involved with the team, and ready to help achieve the results we’re aiming for,” he said.
The 28-year-old also acknowledged that the squad is working hard to adapt to the playing style of their new Malian coach.
“We believe in his vision and what he wants us to implement on the pitch. It’s all about trusting his approach and executing it in the games,” he added.
The Super Eagles had their first training session under Eric Chelle on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Aribo recently admitted feeling embarrassed by Southampton’s struggles in the English Championship, with the club languishing at the lower end of the table.
He also confessed that constant comparisons to Derby County—the holders of the worst Premier League season record—have been difficult to ignore.
