One of the world’s most active volcanoes in Hawaii has erupted once more, launching dramatic lava fountains up to 1,000 feet (300 meters) high, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
The latest eruption, which began on December 23, has been marked by intermittent activity. Volcanic episodes have varied in duration, with some lasting as little as 13 hours and others continuing for up to eight days.
“The lava fountains reaching these incredible heights highlight the ongoing power and unpredictability of this volcano,” a spokesperson from the observatory said. “While the activity fluctuates, the volcano remains closely monitored to ensure public safety.”
