Enugu State Governor, Bar. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has officially launched Enugu Air, a state-owned airline aimed at boosting investment, tourism, and economic growth in the state.
The airline’s inaugural flight took off on Monday, marking what the governor described as a landmark moment for Ndi Enugu and a demonstration of his administration’s vision for a modern, business-friendly state.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Governor Mbah said the initiative aligns with his broader objective of positioning Enugu as a prime destination for investment, living, and tourism in Nigeria.
“It is an honour to stand before you today, not only as governor but as a fellow believer in the power of vision,” he remarked. He described the launch, coming shortly after his administration’s second anniversary, as a worthy gift to the people of Enugu.
Governor Mbah emphasized that Enugu Air goes beyond transportation—it symbolizes the creation of an enabling environment for enterprise and the unlocking of previously untapped economic sectors. He also highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships, calling the project a model for strategic collaboration between government and investors.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, addressed public concerns about the future of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport. He clarified that the airport is not being sold but concessioned to private investors to improve efficiency.
Keyamo commended Governor Mbah for attracting private sector participation, noting that his administration has shown commitment to development by cutting through bureaucratic red tape and driving progress.
