The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, on Wednesday, welcomed Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate, back into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), applauding his decision as a demonstration that politics should not be a do-or-die affair.
Governor Mbah described Edeoga’s return as a testament to the PDP’s commitment to reconciliation and governance focused on the people rather than personal ambitions. He assured Edeoga and his supporters that they were fully embraced within the party.
Receiving Edeoga at the Government House, alongside PDP leaders led by the state party chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, Mbah expressed delight at the homecoming, emphasizing its significance in strengthening party unity.
“Welcome back home. Your return symbolizes the enduring bond within our party. I am truly pleased to see you rejoining your political family,” Mbah said.
He commended Edeoga for prioritizing the state’s interests, stating, “Politics is not about personal battles but about service. Your decision to work together for the greater good of Enugu State is commendable.”
The former LP candidate, in turn, praised Governor Mbah for fostering an inclusive political atmosphere. He described his return as a shift from divisive politics to governance driven by empathy and the people’s welfare.
“This moment is historic in Enugu’s political landscape. It marks a departure from hostility to a contest of ideas where governance takes precedence after elections,” Edeoga stated.
He affirmed his alignment with the people’s choice and pledged to work towards PDP’s success in future political engagements.
“I recommit myself to the ideals of the PDP. As we move forward, I will contribute to ensuring the party’s continued victory,” he added.
Edeoga’s return signals a significant step in fostering political harmony in Enugu State, reinforcing Governor Mbah’s vision of inclusive leadership.
