Four seminarians lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries following a tragic accident near the Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State.

According to a statement from Nsa Gill, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, the accident occurred at Ikwette community, close to the bottom hill of the resort. The vehicle involved was carrying 13 individuals, and initial investigations point to brake failure as a possible cause.

The victims, all seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Diocese, were on a tour of the resort and had completed their visit when the accident occurred. They were reportedly led by a Reverend Father.

“The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of four lives and injuries to nine others. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” Gill stated.

The Cross River State Government expressed condolences to the affected families and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety at the resort and across the state.

“Safety is our utmost priority in the Ranch Resort and beyond. We will be reviewing safety measures in place to protect every visitor,” the statement added. It also urged all visitors to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles and to follow all safety guidelines while accessing the state’s tourist attractions.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected by this tragedy,” the government concluded.
