Former Brazil coach Tite announced he is taking an indefinite break from his career to focus on his mental and physical health.
The 63-year-old, who guided Brazil to the 2019 Copa America title, was hospitalized last August due to a heart issue. He was dismissed by Flamengo a month later and had recently been linked with a return to Corinthians.
“I’ve come to understand that, as a human being, vulnerability is part of the journey — and recognizing that will ultimately make me stronger,” Tite said in a statement posted Tuesday on his son Matheus Bachi’s Instagram account.
“I’m deeply passionate about what I do and will remain so, but after discussions with my family and recognizing the warning signs my body was showing, I made the decision to step away from coaching for as long as necessary to take care of myself.”
He added, “There had been ongoing conversations with Corinthians, but they will now be put on hold due to this difficult, yet necessary, decision.”
Tite, who resigned as Brazil’s coach following their 2022 World Cup quarter-final exit, has previously managed a number of top Brazilian clubs, including Grêmio, Atlético Mineiro, and Palmeiras.
