Following the unexpected flood in the state, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Duoye Diri, has announced a seven-day holiday for government personnel.
Diri said on Tuesday that almost a million people have been internally displaced in over 300 towns across the state, and that several deaths have been recorded as a result of the flooding.
According to the governor, the state task force on flood mitigation and management, in collaboration with the state emergency management agency, has constructed camps for internally displaced persons and is distributing relief items to flood victims.
Diri has requested that President Muhammadu Buhari make special contributions to the state from the stabilisation funds, ecological funds, and natural resources fund.
