Enugu North LGA Holds Sensitisation on Gender-Based Violence, Hosts Public Hearing on Gender Policy

Enugu North Local Government Area on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, hosted a sensitisation programme on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and a public hearing on the proposed Enugu State Gender Policy.

 

 

 

The event, held at the council headquarters, was organised by the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the South Saharan Social Development Organisation (SSDO), with support from the Ford Foundation.

Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, commended the Enugu North Council Chairman for providing a platform for the engagement. She also acknowledged the continued support of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the First Lady in promoting the rights and welfare of women and children.

Mrs. Enih noted that the public hearing aimed to give women a voice on critical issues affecting them, including female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse. She appreciated SSDO and the Ford Foundation for their collaboration in pushing gender policy reforms in the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Enugu North LGA thanked Governor Mbah for approving the gender policy reform and for ongoing development projects in the area. He also lauded Commissioner Enih for her dedication to gender equity and inclusivity.

 

He encouraged women at the event to speak openly, assuring them that their input would contribute meaningfully to the development of a gender policy that addresses their concerns.

The event was attended by the deputy chairman of the council, legislative chancellors, and other key local government stakeholders.
