Tiktokers arrested for slandering Kano State’s governor will receive 20 strokes of the cane.
Mubarak Muhammad (Uniquepikin) and Nazifi Muhammad, two Kannywood TikTok skit creators, were ordered by a Kano magistrate court on Monday, November 7, to be flogged.
They are being held in prison for several weeks for allegedly defaming Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in one of their comedy skits.
The magistrate, Aminu Gambari, issued a ruling on Monday ordering that the two boys be flogged with 20 cane lashes each, among other conditions.
The skit creators were also ordered to sweep the magistrate complex for one month and pay N20,000 each for “public disturbance.”
The court also ordered them to return to their Tik Tok handles and other social media platforms and make another video apologising to the governor in the same manner as the video they earlier published.
Magistrate Gambari said that he hoped the punishment would serve as a deterrent to other social media users to respect the integrity of other people, especially the elders.
The prosecution counsel, Wadda Wadda, expressed his satisfaction on the court’s decision over the case, and also hoped that others will learn from this.
Recall Uniquepikin, who recently finished his NYSC, and his partner, Nazifi, appeared in a TikTok video skit, in which the former acted an Islamic scholar and the other as his interpreter.
Daily Nigerian reports that the duo made a skit depicting Ganduje as a corrupt politician, who sold every available public plots of land in the state.
