As part of its contribution to national food security efforts, Dangote Cement Plc has launched a Farmers Empowerment Programme in Benue State, targeting the creation of 50 agricultural entrepreneurs within its host communities.

The programme was officially unveiled on Thursday in Gboko Local Government Area and aims to support farmers in producing both subsistence and cash crops at commercial scale.

Speaking at the launch, Johnson Kor, General Manager of Social Performance at Dangote Cement, described the initiative as “historic and innovative,” noting that it is the first project executed under the Community Development Agreement (CDA) signed with host communities in December 2024.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our shared journey of development,” Kor said, adding that beneficiaries were selected from six catchment communities within Gboko.

Also speaking at the event, the Plant Director of Dangote Cement Gboko, Munusamy Murugan—represented by Head of Production, Engr. Soom Kiishi—announced that the beneficiaries will receive agricultural inputs including fertilizers, agrochemicals, sprayers, and seedlings.

He stated that the programme will be held annually and will be complemented by other initiatives such as a Youth Empowerment Programme, which will offer training in welding, fabrication, and solar installation.

Community leaders, including Dr. Ahemen Aondoaver Samuel, and one of the beneficiaries, Kwaghgba Isaac, praised the programme, describing it as a transformative step toward achieving food sufficiency and driving grassroots development.
