Residents of Umuma Ndiagu in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State have been left in shock following the gruesome discovery of multiple decomposing bodies in soakaway pits located in the compound of a native doctor, simply identified as Ezeani. The victims, according to eyewitnesses, included pregnant women and children allegedly kidnapped and buried alive for ritual purposes.
The horrifying incident came to light after a 13-year-old girl narrowly escaped being used for ritual sacrifice and was rescued by local vigilante members. In a viral video obtained by SaharaReporters, one community member, visibly shaken, described the discovery:
“We have caught the killers. They kill people. People’s dead bodies are full inside here. They have killed a lot of people. We just rescued a 13-year-old child who they wanted to use for rituals,” he said, pointing to the chilling scene within the compound.
The man further identified the location as “Ojor’s house” in Umuma Ndiagu, Ezeagu, where the atrocities allegedly took place. One suspect, apprehended by an irate mob at the scene, claimed to be a security guard assigned to protect the property and scare away intruders. He was beaten by angry residents before making a partial confession.
While denying direct involvement in the killings, the suspect admitted to visiting the compound frequently for ritual purposes. “I am a business person and I came here. After I finished performing some sacrifices, it remained for a water sacrifice to be performed for me,” he said.
He also alleged that the owner of the compound, referred to as “Daddy Ezeani,” instructed him to guard the premises. The suspect went on to name two other alleged accomplices—Okey from Orji River and another man named Chibuzor—whom he said he could identify by face.
The prime suspect, Ezeani, is reportedly on the run. However, members of the community reportedly apprehended his wives and set his house and vehicles ablaze in a fit of rage.
