As the national sports festival kick off today, Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Ogun State, Enugu State athlete Chinaza Chibuike is brimming with optimism ahead of her debut appearance.
Chinaza, who is making her first outing at the prestigious games, expressed excitement about the opportunity and the experience the festival will offer.
“I’m really excited because this is my first time competing as an athlete,” she said. “I know I’ll gain valuable experience and exposure through this platform.”
While she looks forward to learning, Chinaza also has her sights set on winning.
“My mind is focused on the competition. I’ll feel very proud if I’m able to win a prize,” she added.
Grateful for the support from the Enugu State Government, she also called for greater investment in sports—especially with Enugu set to host future editions of the festival.
“I appreciate the government’s effort in bringing us to Ogun, but I hope they do more when it’s our turn to host. There’s a need to improve, particularly in supporting female athletes.”
Speaking on her experience in Ogun so far, she praised the host state’s hospitality.
“Ogun State is really welcoming. The environment is clean and comfortable—they’re doing well.”
It’s worth noting that Team Enugu athletes have already arrived in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, ahead of the festival’s official opening today.
