On Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital, overturned Hon. Isiaka Abiodun Akinlade’s election as the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Yewa South and Ipokia Federal Constituency.
The nomination of Isiaq Akinlade by the All Progressives Congress was also declared “irregular, null and void” by the presiding Justice O.O.Oguntoyinbo.
The Court ruled that Akinlade never submitted an expression of interest form or was screened by the APC in time for the National Assembly primary election.
In addition, the Court ordered a new primary within 40 days to select and nominate candidates for the Yewa South and Ipokia Federal Constituency seats in 2023.
It barred Akinlade from participating in the rescheduled primary election.
Chief Michael Adebayo Adeleke, a disgruntled aspirant and candidate, filed the suit against three defendants: the APC, Isiaq Abiodun Akinlade, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
