The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with the alleged gang rape, abortion, and subsequent death of an 18-year-old girl in Misau town, Misau Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday.
According to Wakil, police received a report on April 4, 2025, indicating that two suspects — Usman Umar, 22, of Fawari area, and Sallau Ayuba, 21, of Lariski area — had lured the young woman and engaged in multiple sexual encounters with her over a four-month period. When they discovered she was pregnant, they allegedly contracted a 35-year-old student of A.D. Rufai College for Islamic and Legal Studies, Abubakar Mohammed, to carry out an abortion for a fee of N40,000.
The attempted abortion led to complications. “After being injected by Abubakar, the victim lost consciousness and became severely ill,” Wakil said. “Her family rushed her to General Hospital Misau, from where she was referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Azare. She was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.”
Wakil added that following the report, police arrested the suspects who confessed and identified additional accomplices. Among those also arrested are Alkali Kawu, Maule Mai Ride, Mai Tomatoes, Danguli, Yakubu, Kura — a civil servant — and four others. All are currently under investigation at the Misau Divisional Police Headquarters.
The police spokesperson assured that the Command remains committed to ensuring justice is served. “Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon its conclusion,” he said.
