The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved a wide range of infrastructure and social reform projects aimed at tackling erosion, improving road networks, rehabilitating schools, and promoting cultural reorientation across the state.
The approvals were announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, following the Council’s 11th meeting held on June 16, 2025, at the Light House in Awka.
Among the major projects is a ₦3.5 billion erosion and flood control initiative in Umunze, which includes the construction of a 2.28-kilometre road linking key educational and residential areas. The contract was awarded to Saidi Nigeria Limited.
ANSEC also earmarked ₦2.65 billion for the construction of 3.9 kilometres of access roads at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus. The project will be executed by Anyi Supreme Industries Ltd. Additionally, ₦2.1 billion was approved for internal road works at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, to be handled by Mid-East Construction Company.
Other approvals include ₦528.6 million for the completion of a Country Club at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex, awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd; ₦97.3 million for the rehabilitation of Nya Ranch Road in Awka by the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA); and ₦65.7 million for additional construction at Onitsha Specialist Hospital, Fegge, also by Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd.
To improve road safety across the state, ANSEC allocated ₦55.1 million for the installation of traffic control devices such as road signs, rumble strips, caution lights, and speed bumps. This contract was awarded to Vadakris Ltd.
In education, the Council approved ₦718.6 million for the renovation of decaying infrastructure at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. The project will be undertaken by Biggstruct Engineering Ltd, Zonel Projects Ltd, and Euro Energy Resources.
Beyond physical development, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to the Anambra Rebirth Programme — a cultural revival campaign designed to instil Igbo values of integrity and hard work. The initiative will be launched under the Igbo proverb “Aka aja aja na-ebute onu mmanụ mmanụ” (Hard work brings success and happiness).
In the transportation sector, ANSEC resolved to retrain drivers across the state. It also announced that drivers found guilty of serious traffic violations will be blacklisted in a bid to improve road safety and reduce accidents.
The decisions underscore Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s ongoing efforts to transform Anambra through infrastructure upgrades, educational investment, and value reorientation.
