Air Peace has announced the temporary suspension of its flights to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, citing safety concerns due to the deteriorating condition of the runway.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, the airline explained that persistent issues with the runway have caused significant disruptions to its operations, prompting the suspension.
“We regret to inform you that all flights scheduled to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, are temporarily suspended due to safety concerns,” the statement read.
According to the airline, the decision aligns with its commitment to prioritizing passenger safety above all else. Air Peace expressed optimism that the pause in operations would provide the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) with the opportunity to carry out necessary repairs on the runway.
“At Air Peace, we prioritise safety over convenience. We believe suspending flights into this airport will allow FAAN the time needed to address the runway issues,” the statement added.
While the suspension is in effect, flights previously scheduled for Enugu will now be routed through the Asaba Airport.
The airline appealed for passengers’ understanding and apologized for any inconvenience caused, stressing that the measure was taken in the best interest of public safety.
