Day 3 of the 22nd National Sports Festival delivered another thrilling round of events across various venues, with Bayelsa State emerging as the front-runner on the official medals table. The state leads with a total of 6 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal.
Closely trailing is Oyo State, which has accumulated 4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal, bringing their total to six. Lagos State follows in third place with a haul of 3 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Cross River State holds the fourth position with 3 gold medals, while Rivers State rounds out the top five with 2 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medal.
Making a surprising impact, the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA) are punching above their weight, sitting in sixth place with 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal.
Defending champions and pre-tournament favorites Delta State currently find themselves in an uncharacteristic seventh place, having secured just 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal after Day 3.
So far, a total of 71 medals have been awarded: 23 gold, 23 silver, and 25 bronze—as the festival continues to grow in excitement, competition, and performance quality.
The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has urged journalists covering the event to refer only to the official medals table released by the Commission, cautioning against relying on unofficial or self-generated versions circulating online.
Events resume on Wednesday, with fans eagerly anticipating more competitive action and shifts on the medals table.
