The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said yesterday that more than 70% of those who registered in the recently finished Continuous Voters Registration process for the 2023 election were members of vulnerable groups such as Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
As a result, it urged political parties, as essential drivers of Nigeria’s democratic process and governance, to take the lead in supporting PWDs’ full participation in their processes, procedures, and activities.
Prof. Kunle Ajayi, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Outreach and Partnership Committee, announced these during a speech at the National PWD Civic and Political Lab in Abuja.
The event was organized by the Inclusive Friends Association, a human rights organization, with assistance from Participate Today and the National Endowment for Democracy.
