In an effort to reduce the threat of vote buying and rigging, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has hinted at plans to deploy undercover agents to polling units for the 2023 general elections.
Festus Okoye, Chairman of the INEC Information and Voter Education Committee, declared this in Abuja during a citizens’ election dialogue titled ‘What Makes a Good Election in Nigeria’.
Okoye reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in conjunction with security services for all Nigerians.
According to INEC’s National Commissioner, the commission will continue to train its employees to ensure a smooth election.
He stated that the training will ensure that election officials understand how to construct and place the polling cubicle to ensure vote confidentiality.
