The Labour Party has been mocked by the All Progressive Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party over the dispute surrounding the creation of its Presidential Campaign Council.
The Labour Party and the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation disagreed when the latter announced a campaign council of 1,234 members.
Some members of the party had earlier dismissed the council’s list, but the PCC was later unveiled, and a party chieftain, Dr Doyin Okupe, was announced as the Director-General of the Peter Obi/Yusuf Baba-Ahmed Presidential Campaign Council, while the presidential candidate and his running mates were not present.
According to a PUNCH report, Tajudeen Aro, the APC’s Kwara State Publicity Secretary, stated that the LP lacks the framework to form a competent presidential campaign council in order to win the 2023 presidential election.
Also, Akeem Olatunji, the PDP’s Oyo State spokesperson, stated that he did not view the LP as a genuine party, but rather as a publicity gimmick.
He claimed that anyone voting for LP candidates in 2023 would be wasting their vote.
In response, Abayomi Arabambi, an LP chieftain, stated the APC and PDP lacked comprehension of the LP’s activities. He also said the controversy on the formation of the LP PCC had been resolved and a new list would be unveiled next week.
