Usman Baba-Alkali, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has encouraged political parties and politicians to allow the police to regulate their campaigns for the 2023 general elections.
Baba-Alkali made the announcement to reporters on Sunday in Maiduguri. According to him, the action was implemented to prevent a collapse in law and order.
While assuring the force’s commitment to election security, the IGP stated that the employment of phony security agents by any candidate or party would not be condoned.
He emphasized the importance of community policing in limiting criminals, noting that the force’s previously recruited 10,000 officers had been dispatched to their respective LGAs to improve community policing.
