The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has once again failed to appear before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, despite being given a 10-day ultimatum to respond to financial queries involving ₦200 trillion.
At Thursday’s hearing, Ojulari sent representatives in his place, but the committee refused to engage them, insisting that only the GCEO could address the 11 critical financial issues raised in NNPCL’s audited accounts.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Aliyu Wadada, described Ojulari’s repeated absence as a direct affront to the authority of the National Assembly and a violation of its constitutional oversight duties.
Wadada warned that the Senate would not tolerate further disregard for its summons and said a new date would be issued for Ojulari to appear in person.
The committee is currently investigating major discrepancies in NNPCL’s financial statements, which lawmakers say raise serious concerns over accountability and transparency.
